Daily Tip 1: Expose keyboard shortcuts

Daily Tip 1: Expose keyboard shortcuts

Exposé get an overhauling in Snow Leopard. Appart from the presentational and functional improvements, a few new keyboard shortcuts are introduced.

When Exposé is activated:

  • ⌘+Tab cycles though the opened applications showing only their windows
  • ⌘+1 sorts windows alphabetically
  • ⌘+2 sorts windows by application

cmd+1 and cmd+2 do nothing for me. suggestions?

Expose has gotten completely useless in Snow Loepard. It requires you to use arrow keys to navigate windows, unlike Leopard that used TAB key in addition to arrow keys.

If you are a touch typist, your hands are on the home row. Going out to the arrow keys is costly, and if you are going to do that you might as well go all the way to the mouse.

In Leopard, you could switch apps so much faster using Expose. Now, TAB key cycles through applications but it does not allow you to actually select anything without going to the arrow keys or mouse. Basically, useless.

This is such a step back it amazes me. Also, what's with the neon blue border around windows. Again, Leopard did this so much better. Besides, because of slow rendering, that background blue rectangle is rendered first and then window slowly moved over it, so only it's blue border shows around the window. Again, silly and completely out of style (if you use graphite appearance).

This is what you get when you start making changes for the sake of changes. You completely fuck up a good thing. Apple it seems is not immune to making cardinal UI mistakes.

Is there a way to have the windows sorted by app by default?
So no need of extra pressing command-2 after activating Exposé ?

    Thanks in advance!
